I was planning to climb Mount Fuji even before I arrived in Japan! When I entered into my room in Kofu for the first time, went to the balcony to check the scenery the Fuji San just appeared in all your lordliness in front of my eyes. From this day and on my overlay and fascination by the mountain has increased until the climbing day when I could discover for myself the mountain's secrets.
The Mount Fuji Old Anthem (created in 1910 by the composer and ca...lligrapher Iwaya Sazanami) played at the entrance of the national park in an enchanting and fascinating way that seems to come from inside the volcano made me feel even more the energy of this seductive famous mountain all over the world.
We started to climb at 6 am from the 5th Station, the beginning was very easy but gradually the difficulties appeared, the oxygen decreasing, steps and rocks to be overcome with a feeling of tiredness and heavy legs getting stronger. We reached the top at 12:30 pm and while taking a rest we had a light meal, enjoyed the scenery and the great energy of the crater of the volcano. Of course a moment for reflection and praying. Fascinating!
The required efforts of my knees made the descent much more difficult than the ascent. Despite the tiredness and pain in the legs, I got back at the 5th station at 6 pm with a feeling of lightness, purification and renewal.
Experiencing the magnificence, nobleness and beauty of Fuji San I could understand why it is considered a sacred place that has inspired religious beliefs besides been source of artistic inspiration to writers and painters not only in Japan but all over the world. Only after feeling all those emotions someone could understand why the Great Fuji was declared a World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in 2013.
After this amazing experience, every climber should take advantage at least for 3 days of so many others beauties and attractions of Yamanashi - Land of Mount Fuji, including the famous Onsen (high quality hot springs), the Five Lakes Area, the Minami Alps and the Yatsugatake Area all of them with great local food such as Houtou and local wines for a nice physically recovery of climbing Fuji San.
