Yamanashi Prefecture is surrounded by high mountains, including Mt. Fuji—Japan’s tallest peak and a World Heritage site—the Minami Alps, which has Japan’s number second highest peak, Mt. Kitadake, Yatsugatake, and Mt. Daibosatsumine. This makes the prefecture an optimal place to enjoy sports set in the mountains. As such, sports such as hill-climbing in which cyclists ride along paved mountain roads on road bikes, and trail running in which runners run along unpaved mountain roads, are highly popular in Yamanashi and various competitions are held throughout the prefecture.
In Yamanashi, it is also possible to thoroughly enjoy golf courses, where games can be played in expansive natural settings, and various outdoor sports that enable the appreciation of nature. After enjoying nature in the prefecture, visitors are recommended to spend some time relaxing at a hot spring and trying the local cuisine.
