Within the city of Hokuto, you'll find the forest of Kiyosato, where you can enjoy a camping experience as luxurious as a 5-star hotel!
Recently, a particular "style" of camping has been gaining great traction, known as "glamping." Glamping is a combination of the words "glamorous" and "camping." It combines the style and comfort of a hotel with the beauty and joy of nature.
There are countless campsites across Yamanashi, but today we will be introducing the auto campsite at "Kiyosato Okanokouen," in Hokuto City.
Thrilled with the idea of our first glamping experience, we headed to the campsite to spend the night.
▲Auto campsite at Kiyosato Okanokouen
At the campsite, everything we needed was already prepared for us, including a tent, lanterns, chairs, and many other useful camping goods!
Inside of each tent are two semi-double beds. There is also a coffee maker, fridge, electric kettle, and several others. Furthermore, for those cold winter nights, they have heaters and electric blankets as well! Even though we came empty-handed, we were provided with everything we needed to be able to spend the night in utter bliss.
▲Tennyo-no-Yu hot spring
First off, to wash away our tiredness from the trip over, we headed to the on-site hot springs! About a 3-minute walk from the campsite, you'll find the hot spring "Tennyo-no-Yu." There was also an outdoor bath! The carbonated and chloride baths were a deep and brown-green color. The baths left our bodies feeling warm and our skin wonderfully smooth. And of course, the experience was entirely free for campers (towels included)! For those who don't fancy the hot spring experience, there are also shower rooms available.
After a hot bath, we were ready to have a dinner feast! Next to our tents, there was an area with a grill for barbecuing as well as a table. The ingredients and utensils we needed to prepare the meal were all supplied by the campsite, so all we had to do was grill up everything!
The menu was filled with delicious options.
- A salad made from local highlands vegetables
- Pot-au-feu made from large bacon slices and mixed vegetables
- Acqua Pazza made from local rainbow trout
- Beef steak made with Yamanashi Wine
- Baguette
- Cheesecake
There was so much to eat, we could barely even finish it all!
At the front desk of the campsite, you can buy beer and other alcohol. Feel free to get some to accompany your camping experience, and enjoy watching the starry night sky.
One of the many great things about the Yatsugatake-Nanroku Area is the fact that it has the sunniest and clearest weather in all of Japan. The air is clear and, as a star viewing spot, it is one of the best. On clear days, you can see an endless amount of stars over the night sky.
▲Beds inside the tent
The beds were big enough to sleep comfortably, and the sounds of nature put us to sleep. We all slept well that night.
▲Kiyosato Golf Course (restaurant)
For breakfast we dined at a restaurant connected to the Kiyosato Golf Course, about a 5-minute walk from our campsite.
▲Both western and Japanese-style meals to choose from
▲On-site golf course and water park
Kiyosato Okanokouen campers also have the opportunity to explore a large variety of other recreational activities while staying at their campsites, including mini-golf, golf, tennis, dog runs, hot springs, pools, and more.
▲Makiba (restaurant)
About a 10-minute drive from Kiyosato Okanokouen is a restaurant called Makiba, which has delicious ice cream.
Even if you don’t have a single piece of camping equipment, just head over to Kiyosato to experience a fully-furnished camping/glamping experience! In addition to camping, there are fun activities that friends and family can enjoy!
