Main content starts here.
The Hocchitoge Pass Hill Climb course starts just before Hosakabashi Bridge, which crosses over Shiokawa River, and runs on a slope that begins a little bit farther down the road. The steepest slope is a stretch that goes through an old townscape beyond Nirasaki Interchange where there is less traffic. The gradient stays more or less the same and does not get much gentler, so you will need to pedal with perseverance. This is an ideal course for training since it features slopes with gradients of around 10% that continue in a straight line.
Due to the changes along the way, it is difficult to set a rhythm on this course, so it is best to switch between standing pedaling and sitting pedaling in order to avoid overstraining your muscles. Try not to relax too much on the gentler sections or push too hard on the steeper sections. The course goes in a straight line to the finish line at Miyakubo Intersection without any traffic lights, but there is a lot of traffic, especially in the first half, so make sure to stay safe. Also, students use this road in the area around Hosaka Elementary School. Visibility is poor at some of the curbs in this area so be especially careful here. In addition, make sure to keep your speed low when coming back down the hill.
The starting point is Hosakabashi Bridge, which crosses over Shiokawa River. After crossing this bridge, a slope starts with a gradient of 10% to 12%. The road becomes narrower, and there is a lot of traffic, so please be careful here.
Near to JA Nashikita, the slope temporarily gets gentler with a gradient of 3% to 5%, so this is an opportunity to increase your speed. After this, old townscapes continue on both sides of the road and there is a steep slope.
You will then run on a gradual incline along a small river and enter a forest.
There will be a gentle slope lined with golf courses and resort facilities, and after rounding the curve here, you will almost be at the finish line.
The front of the sign for "Hocchitoge Pass Manjuishi Rock" at the peak is the finish line.
